Air India win 7-1

Dhruv Tikka. Mumbai

Air India drubbed Mumbai Customs 7-1 in a Mumbai Hockey Association Super League match at Mahindra Stadium on Wednesday. It was an easy outing for Air India and this was indicated through eight penalty corners they won, six of them in the first half.

And it took them just 12 minutes to go 1-0 up. Sumeet Singh converted a penalty corner after Girish Pimpale had done well in the D to give his side a third penalty corner. Veteran striker Dhanraj Pillay scored the teams second in the 30th minute. Two minutes later he got his second and the teams third through a deflection.

In the second half Pimpale soon got on the sheet with a goal in the 37th minute.

Customs first effort came in as late as the 45th minute. Five minutes later, though, they were able to pull one back through a penalty corner. Chinglen Sana sounded the board in the second attempt. Their fightback was a little too late as the gaps opened on the pitch, which allowed Pimpale to get his second in the 62nd minute. Sameer Dad got into the act too as he scored Air Indias sixth in the 65th minute. Gavin Ferreira scored the seventh goal through a reverse flick in the 67th minute.
