ONGC recorded their second straight victory in the Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) 200809 Super League by upstaging Central Railway 3-0 at the MHAMahindra stadium on Monday. The Railway side had themselves to blame though as they simply miffed a number of opportunities including five penalty corners that they won during the game.
In fact both teams failed to really capitalize on the penalty corners that were awarded to them, as ONGC themselves converted only one out of four successfully.
Jayanta fired the first goal for ONGC in the 15th minute through a drag-flick. Amit Bharadwaj then added to Central’s woes by scoring the second, two minutes later. He slotted in a cross-pass unleashed from the axis by Sandeep Antil. ONGC remained 2-0 up at the lemon-break.
The railway outfit’s disappointing display continued in the secondhalf, as they simply couldn’t match up to the pace set by their opponents. Antil then netted in his second goal of the evening, as he fired from the top of the D leaving Central’s custodian Mohd Akhil stranded.
This gave ONGC a 3-0 lead, which they held onto till the final hooter.
