A young Bombay Republicans ‘B’outfit, with an average age of just 15 years, put on a brilliant display to hold seasoned opponents Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to a 3-3 draw in a Mumbai Hockey Association (MHA) Division II match at the MHA-Mahindra sta dium in Churchgate on Thursday.
RBI shot into the lead in the 8th minute of play through a direct penaltycorner conversion by Sunil Kumar.
But ‘player of the day’15-year-old striker Vikram Singh equalized for the Republicans, who scored from an Imran Zaee pass. Kumar then struck again for RBI as he banged in from the D top to give his team the lead.
The youngsters got no respite, as Santa Kumar deflected a crisp shot unleashed by Sunil Kumar, to make it 3-1 for RBI.
But Aditya Shirke outfoxed RBI custodian Anthony Dias to pull back a goal for Republicans. Vikram then scored his second goal of the day to level the score one final time in the last minute of play.
