Mysore, Aug. 30- Inspiring play and a goal each by by right-in Kalyani and forwards Ananth and Lokesh, helped Best School, Bellary to register a well earned 3-1 win over Sports School, Ponnampet and win the High school boys title in the Invitation tournament conducted on the ocassion of the National Sports Day celebrations by the National Sports Day Celebration Committee at the University grounds here on Saturday.
Kalyani scored in the 22nd minute for Best School, Bellary and the lead was further increased by Ananth in the 26th minute. Kusha reduced the margin for the Ponnampet team in the 35th minute. Lokesh increased the lead in the 48th minute of the game for the winner.
Sports School, Ponnampet secured 10 penalty corners but wasted all the opportunities by not converting even one of them, while Best school, Bellary converted one penalty corner out of the two secured by them.
St. Philomena’s FGC won the District-level College Boys title beating SBRR Mahajana PU College 3-1 in the final. Amreeth Barua showed excellent anticipation in converting a free-hit to a goal. Parity was restored in the 47th minute through a field goal by Machiah for Mahajana PU College. Chengappa scored a brace in the 46th and 54th minute of the game to increase the lead for St. Philomena’s FGC.
SBRR Mahajana PU College secured five penalty corners, but could not convert even one of them and wasted a good opportunity to forge ahead.
In the High School Boys section JSS High school registered a 4-3 win over Sree Ramakrishna Vidyashala via tie-breaker. At full time both the teams were logged goalless. For JSS High School, Charan, Guru, Manu and Eshwar converted while Shivan, Rahul and Deepak scored for SRKVS.
In a Exhibition match, Veteran’s XI scored a 2-0 win over Sports Hostel girls. The winning goal was scored by Sanjay Banath and Thirumalai Gopalan.
The prizes to the winners were given away to all the winners and runner-up by Supdt. of Police, Ramasubba, Dr. C. Krishna, Director, Dept. of Phy. Education, UOM, Venkatesh Murthy, Director, Administratve Staff Training Institute, UOM, Ln. Krishne Gowda, Prof. Seshanna, B.A. Nanaiah, Dilip Biddapapa, MD, The Roost Hotel and K. Shiva-kumar, President, MDJA in the function held at the University gymnasium hall.
The organisers also honoured Shivakumar, President, MDJA and K. Gopinath, Freelance Sports Photo Journalist, on the ocassion.
