Big win for Chhota Nagpur
Nagpur: Contrary to their name Chhota Nagpur believe in doing big things. The talented side notched up a big win over Shakti Sporting Club to consolidate their position in the VHA ‘B’ Division Hockey League.
In the match No. 7 of the ongoing meet, Chhota Nagpur slammed exactly seven goals to demolish Shakti. M Jiwandan was the most impressive of the Chhota Nagpur forward-line and fired three goals but missed hat-trick by a whisker. David Tete too made the most of defensive lapses of Shakti Sporting with a double strike.
The sixth and seventh goal was struck by Pradeep Tirkey and Sudhir Tirkey in the 49th and 51st minute, respectively.
The margin of the victory could have been bigger had Chhota Nagpur capitalized on the four penalty corners they got – two each in either half. Shakti had a poor day in the field and also wasted their three short corners.
The second match of the day held earlier was also a one-sided affair with Anugrah blanking Vidarbha Blues 3-0. Hard working forward Ashfaque Ansari netted a brace in the 11th and 29th minutes, while Bhakt Bahadur Thapa increased the margin in the 43rd minute. TNN
