Netherlands best player won’t play against India?
Holland coach Paul van Ass won’t play one of his best players. “Billy is one of the four best players I have here, but for us discipline is foremost ”, Paul said.
The discipline the coach refers to is an internal one, not dictated by any statue in a rule book. Anybody who gets yellow card will not be played for the next match is the Netherlands team’s decision. Internal discipline aiming to have a free flow game, and to safeguard all eleven on the turf.
Billy Bakker got the doubly-dreaded yellow card in Netherlands second match of the ongoing world cup against Poland, on Monday.
Even as the team was winning 7-2, he ‘over-talked’ to take the card barely two minutes remained for the hooter.
When a Dutch journalist remained him that the next match is against India, he was quick to retort: “I will do this even if it is final of this World Cup”.
However, Paul added that the team will watch the video closely and see for Billy’s type of foul that led to yellow card suspension.
Paul, 48, is known for his discipline in the Holland circle. He played for HCG Club in The Hague, and taken over the coaching of the colts last November.
Netherlands have won both their matches, against Singapore and Poland, with handsome margin.
Junior World Cup is the lone title that the hockey strong nation did not win so far. This seems not a worry for Paul, whose first aim is Discipline. “If discipline is there, everything else will fall in line”, he says
Forward Billy scored a goal in the ‘ill-fated’ match, still he has wait for some more time to know his fate whether he would play against the toughest pool opponent, former Junior Champions India
