The finals of the both Junior (Under 14) and Senior section (Under 17) of the One Thousand Hockey Legs Delhi Cup 2012 will be held at Major Dhayan Chand National stadium on pitch two tomorrow.
Its an annual tournament, the schools where hockey has been introduced and sustained by Delhi based NGO, Hockey Citizen Group, under their novel One Thousand Hockey Legs project — it seeks to introduce 500 school kids to the game of hockey — participate.
The first leg of the tournament was held at the same venue from 21st to 23rd Dec, last week. Two schools for each category out of 10 schools participated has been identified, they will be seeking the ultimate honours tomorrow.
The up and coming outfit, Govt. Sr. Sec, School Saket in South Delhi will face off neighbourhood school Govt. Sr. Sec. Schooln Begumpur (Malviya Nagar) in the senior section at 15 hrs.
While the latter entered the finals with an all win record, Saket just made it to it, pipping Anglo-Arabic school, which unfortunately drew their last league match against fighting DTEA, Mandir Marg.
However, Junior boys of the Anglo Arabic School, Ajmeri Gate, can derive immense satisfaction as they are in the final.
Here again, Saket will face them for the honours.
DTEA, Mandir Marg and Anglo-Arabic schools will play the hardline match between the two finals on Saturday.
Begumpur school are the defending champions.
K. Arumugam, CEO and Founder, invites all hockey promoters, other tournament organizers, hockey fans to witness the match, and also media to cover the event.
