Pak overcomes Scotland 3-0, Kiwis too win

Pakistan defeat Scotland 3-0, after leading a goal less in the half time.

Shakeel Abbasi, Rehan Butt and Imran Mohammad scored a goal apiece.

On the other match, New Zealand men outplayed Trinidad and Tobago to post a comfortable 7-1 victory.

For New Zealand Andrew Hayward started the scoring with a penalty corner conversion in the 11th minute, once the TT’s defence is broken, there is no respite. Andrew again scored in the 47th minute. Like him, Blair Hilton also scored a brace of goals in the 30th and 49th minutes. Other goal scorers include Hugo Inglis, veteran Hayden Shaw, and Nick Haig.

Pakistan match was played on the main pitch. In the 20th minute, centre-forward Shakeel Abbais outwitted a host of defenders inside the circle to effect his patented reverse hit to break the tough looking Scottish defence.

Shorlty later, Rehan Butt from the centre of the cirlce made it another before in the next half Pak’s penalty corner hitter Imran Md, drove the ball straight into the net off the team’s third penalty corner.

Scotland’s Ross Stott emphasized on improving the atacks. We need to just keep doing what we are doing and take our chances, be a little more clinical in the cirlce:, he said.

We are ranked the lowest in our group, but that doesn’t mean anything to us. We are here to cause upsets’, he said sconfidently.

Coach Russel Garcia did not go panic on the result, and looked confident. He dwelt on the team’s plan for the next game: “I think we have got a lot to work with from this game. We had a few early errors, which cost us. Towards the end we put together a couple of nice combinatins, and things came together a bit better. There is a lot we can take out of this game, so we just have to look forward.

Scot’s Christopher Nelson talked baout the team failure to keep the ball, and also playing in the Delhi heat: We did not value ball possession enough. We turned over far too many easy balls today. In these temperatures, and we are not as used to these conditions as Pakistan. Towards the start of the game we did not keep the ball like we should have, and it caused us quite a few problems”.
