A professional group is engaged here to paint the faces of fans. Mandurah Mermaids is the company doing the job. Its painter Karen Godfrey is busy and is having a whale of time, as good number of kids line up for her.

==============

It is also nice to see paid buffoons, engaging young kids before match starts.

One of the visitors for the last Saturday match was Mel Pearce, one of the five Pearce brothers who dazzled Australian hockey in the 60s.

Murray Grime, well known umpire, is back in action. He officiated the match between Australia and New Zealand women the other day. “I had a nasty cut on my right leg during a veteran hockey match, had to take long rest running into months”. He has of course got the assignment for Auckland Champions Trophy. “Hopefully, I do there, and make it to the Olympics, says Grime who was here with his young daughter”.

On Sunday, India spent about two hours on the turf. Then they played a 2-minute each half game also. Jugraj was seen making up for one of the teams. He was happy his side did not concede not much goals. Sandeep Singh was also happy as his side had piled up 4-1 score in the first half itself.

Saw first time young player Yuvraj playing. He is very fast, was on the left wing and quickly jumping to striking positions. Impressive, indeed.

Indian star Jaspreet Handa was not happy to sit on the sidelines for the second match on Saturday. She was hit on the face during the first match. She sported a big glass, and covered the face with a kerchief. When asked sab tik hai, she replied. “How sir, tik hota mein ground mei hoti”.

Today (Monday) both Indian men and women will be playing at different places but on the same time.
I am left with watching only one match, and that would depend which place is nearer.

Rockingham District Hockey Club organizer Wendy is unhappy on two counts. First, Malaysian team didnot turn up and two matches they were supposed to play had to be cancelled. Now comes the news that the lone match Pakistan was supposed to play today (Monday) was also cancelled. “We made arrangements for two matches a day, but only one is taking place, let down for our fans”, she said.
