Nov 28: Visiting Puducherry OTHL Schools defeated St. Anthony Anglo-Indian Schools Egmore today 3-0 in the first match of the Exchange series here at the Mayor Radhakrishnan hockey stadium. The visitors led 1-0 at half time. T. Balaji, Lokeshwaran and Ranjit scored the goals for the winning side.
The tour is first under the One Thousand Hockey Legs (OTHL) program being run by the Delhi based NGI, Hockey Citizen Group. The Puducherry team has been selected out of eight schools subscribed to the OTHL in the Puducherry. The winning team will play against St. Bede’s Higher Secondary School, Santhome, tomorrow at 15.30 hrs at the St. Bede’s school’s premise.
Puducherry OTHL team School hockey team visits Chennai
Hockey Citizen Group is running a hockey teams in the schools in four cities (Chennai, Kolkata, Puducherry and Kanpur) under its innnovative project ‘One Thousand Hockey Legs’ (OTHL). This program seeks introduce at least 500 school children to hockey in select cities in a year.
There are eight schools subscribed to OTHL in Puducherry. After conducting preliminary matches this season, 30 players have been selected to visit Chennai. These 30 players will be alternatively playing against St. Bede’s HSS, Don Bosco (Egmore) HSS and St. Anthony Anglo-Indian HSS, Egmore, in their campuses between 28th and 30th November 2010.
During the match, a request has been made to School Principals / Head Masters to release large number of students to witness the match. During this time, specially designed hockey informative pamphlets, posters, and booklets will be distributed to the audience; this is being done to create interest and awarness of hockey among the next generation.
Hockey Citizen Group has been founded in Dec 2008 by three enthusiasts working in different fields.
