Asia Cup. And then Chakraborty Bar.

Never dare to say these two words to Ramesh Parameswaran, assistant coach of the present Indian team, where Joquim Carvalho is the presiding deity.

Which Asia Cup and what this bar is all about?

We are talking about 1999 Asia Cup when the Indian team stayed at Concorde Hotel, and the bar in question is just a kilometer walk down from there, en route Masjid India, known for thick Indian presence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During that tournament, where the Indian team under Vasudevan Baskaran faced a couple of non-sports related matters, Ramesh had an interesting encounter.

He drank so much in that bar that he got into some hand fists, and in the end got beaten up. With lot of difficulty he was bundled back to Concorde in the late night.

So much disciplined an Indian hockey coach on an Indian assignment. However, shortly, the things transpired so much that this man with old habits live had to be dropped once for all.

The former RBI officer came back to Indian national team last year as choice of Joaquim. Probably many have forgotten the incident, but his recent e-mail rekindled the past.

Now perhaps you understand why in the e-mail, a mastermind of Joaquim, to select journalists, he accused of even Tournament Director coming drunk and such stuff.

Even while accusing others, this gentleman cannot think anything but drink!!!!!!

Old habits never die — even in accusing others.
