s2h is happy to inform that another school in the holy city of Amritsar is taking up hockey — and almost seriously.
Hockey is the National Game of India and so due importance must be given to it as it translates to the pride of Indian Sports. But it is very shocking for all of us that Hockey as a Sport has taken a back seat compared to other sports like Cricket. It is required of us to explore avenues to strengthen this game, to provide financial support to this game also so as to give a deserving place to Hockey among other sports.
We in our school have taken a step forward to introduce Hockey among students. We are building our Junior & Senior teams in our school. The real motivation to start this game came from Mr. Randhawa, Lecturer in D.A.V. College, Amritsar who visits our school. He addressed the students in the Assembly & lectured on the history of the game and the pride & galore Hockey, enjoyed in the past. He impressed upon the students to take up the game of Hockey and also explained other benefits, which could come to the students by becoming good players.
In a year’s time our school teams will be in a position to play inter school Hockey matches and who knows that a few of the players might reach to the National level. The need of the hour is to give a Philip to this sport, is to provide more awareness, publicity & sponsorship, which are essential ingredients of popularising any sport. For the promotion of sports of Hockey in school, we are embarking on a number of avenues to create its awareness. It has been planned to organize various competition such as Quiz, Essay writing, Poster Competition, exclusively focussed on the past personality and renowned players connected with Hockey.
School Hockey teams juniors & seniors will be taken to computer Lab. when they will be shown the visuals of ‘Chak De India’ to drive inspiration for hockey.
We earnestly desire from sponsors to come forward to support this game so that we can say with pride that Hockey is our National Game & will out.
Lastly, we make an appeal to Government of Punjab to allocate the required funds for providing Astro Turf at Guru Nanak Hockey Stadium adjoining Gandhi Ground, Amritsar. Promises were made in the past in this regard, but it is very sad that nothing has been done to fulfill the promise. The provision of Astro Turf in Guru Nanak Hockey Stadium will help the budding players to get used to International Playing environment. Who knows in future, there would be players in Indian Hockey Team from the city of Amritsar.

In India,Hockey game gets nothing in particular except that it is our national game,why so?? Why Hockey is being ignored and why we are mad after one game that is Tamasha Cricket??It is really miserable.Introducing hockey in schools can write a different story..God Bless!!

hockey is our national game so thet if we r real indians then we have 2 play hockey. I wana give a massage 2 all the Indians that they all plz join the hockey team of their city or school. they all have the spirit to be a best player of the team. so join the hockey n become a good player.
