Hockey at Harkrishan Pub.School, Basant Avenue, Amritsar

Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Basant Avenue was established by Chief Khalsa Diwan in April 1986 and is large enough to offer all the benefits with the bright and spacious rooms , activity centers, bustling classrooms and high tech laboratories. With the blessings of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Ji, our school is affiliated with I.C.S.E. i.e. Board for Anglo Indian Education. The aim of this board is to serve the nation’s children through high quality educational endeavors, empowering them to contribute towards the humane just and pluralistic society , by creating exciting learning opportunities , with a commitment to excellence.

The school has attained the status of one of the most prestigious institution of the city with the strong system of education and it strives for human excellence by blending the Indian culture with the modern times without losing its traditional essence. The school provides an environment which is rich and wholesome free from fear and stress and facilitates the implementation of all around development of an individual.

Mrs. Nirmal Kaur joined this institution in 1989 and left no stone unturned to scale new hights of success and and till today she is making ardent efforts in promoting the highest standards of education as well as sports that’s why our children are good in studies as well as sports. When the hockey buff Prof. Paramjit Singh Randhawa met the principal and addressed the assembly by saying who knows that the budding Dhyan Chand, Gagan Ajit and Jugraj are standinng amongst us, this speech was quite touching and it left an everlasting impression on the minds of our students.

Keeping in view, Principal Mrs Nirmal Kaur decided to take mandatory steps for our national game which has lost his magnificence. She added further that there is an urgent need to respect this game. The students were inspired to participate in our National game.

The role of Chief Khalsa Diwan in promoting sports in schools under his ages is highly commendable CKD has always given utmost importance to games in its schools because the physical and mental well being of students has always been the top priority of the CKD. Interschool sports competitions are held every year. Highly talented and proficient coaches are hired to train the students in various sports and it is no surprise that our students are highly motivated, competent and disciplined. Our budding sportsmen have learnt the art of taking victory as well as defeat in their stride. Kareem Abdul Jabbar says “ you can’t win unless to know how to loose”.

Cricket has always caused a social hype in our society and in our country but in 50’s AND IN 60’S THE BRITISH AND HOLLAND MEDIA ONCE WROTE “THAT INDIA IS A NEWLY INDEPENDENT COUNTRY AND ITS PERFORMANCE IN HOCKEY SHOWED THAT INDIA’S WILL IS ONE OF THE STRONGEST IN THE WORLD AND IT REFLECTS IN THEIR HOCKEY GAME. THEIR PASSION TO WIN A GAME WAS GREAT TO ENJOY…..Cricket is not our religon but we have made it our religon…Sorry to say but indian people are foolish which continuosly follow it without any sense….Never blame one person for the present hockey situation we all are responsible for this downfall of hockey…There are people who don’t even know that hockey is our national game…..Peace!!

Good to see Harkrishan Pub.School, Basant Avenue taking interest in Hockey…now there’s no doubt punjab will emerge as a super power in hockey….and will soon rule many indian and foreign hearts and future tournaments will be ours in coming years…All this was not possible without the efforts of Prof. Randhawa of DAV College Amritsar….

In India,Hockey game gets nothing in particular except that it is our national game, why so?? Why Hockey is being ignored and why we are mad after one game that is Tamasha Cricket??It is really miserable.Introducing hockey in schools can write a different story..God Bless!!

I think a revolution in the society can be brought with the help of students as they have new ideas and new thinking and have the power to make changes but proper guidance can change our society and can also make the game of hockey to flurish and boom like flowers again in India ………..
