Sr Women’s: Patiala, Manipur records big win

Saifai (Uttar Pradesh), 26 April 2015: The 5th Senior National Hockey Championship 2015 (Women) ‘B’ Division today saw tournament favourites dominated their opponents on field and registered wins in the one-sided clashes. In Pool A, Hockey Patiala outplayed Steel Plant Sports Board by 5-1 and in Pool B, Manipur Hockey thumped down Hockey Jammu & Kashmir by a huge margin of 7-0. Hockey Patiala will now lock horns with Association of Indian Universities in the 1st Semi-Final match whereas Hockey Bihar will face Hockey Madhya Pradesh in the 2nd Semi-Final match to be played on Tuesday.

In the first match of day in Pool A, Hockey Patiala thrashed Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB) by a margin of 5-1 with the help of Beant Kaur’s hat-trick and Baby’s brace. It was SPSB, who drew the first blood in the 11th minute of the match when Meena Chakre scored the first goal after dribbling-past opponent’s defence-line. After conceding the goal, Patiala girls charged back with aggressive game and scored goals in regular intervals. Baby scored the first goal for Patiala in the 34th minute with her surprise attack. After seven minutes (41st minute), Beant Kaur sneaked into the opponent’s D scored the second goal for Patiala team. Baby charged again and scored her second goal in the 48th minute of the match to extend the lead by 3-1. In the last few minutes, Beant Kaur displayed her skilful hockey and scored two back-to-back goals in 51st and 58th minutes to complete her spectacular hat-trick. With Beant’s three-goals, Hockey Patiala post a marvellous 5-1 win over Steel Plant Sports Board.

In the Pool B match, Manipur Hockey thumped down Hockey Jammu & Kashmir by a huge margin of 7-0 with help of Sunibala Devi’s brilliant hat-trick in the one-sided clash. Manipur dominated the match from the first minute and their star player Sunibala scored the first goal of the match in 2nd minute only. By demonstrating aggressive game, Manipur earned a two back-to-back penalty corners in 14th and 15th minutes and both were perfectly converted by captain Geetarani Devi and Sunibala respectively. Leading by three goals, Manipur players kept on attacking on Jammu & Kashmir’s half and this time Bidyarani Devi stormed into opponent’s D and scored a spectacular goal in 41st minute of the match. In the 52nd minute, Sunibala scored her hat-trick goal through another penalty corner conversion and extended the lead to 5-0. In the last five minute of the match, Manipur hammered last nails when Jyotibasu Devi scored a spectacular goal in 55th minute, followed by a penalty corner conversion in 58th minute by Priya Chanu. With marvellous team-work, Manipur thumped down Jammu & Kashmir by 7-0.
