New Delhi, 05 May 2015: In its 5th season of the Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championship (Men) will see a total of 36 teams contesting against each other to reach the top spot of this year’s championship. Hockey lovers of Jammu will get a chance to witness young and budding hockey stars, fighting to finish as the winners of this the B Division Championship.
Where Hockey Gangpur-Odisha, Delhi Hockey, Steel Authority of India Ltd. and Hockey Gujarat were seen battling it out to become the Champions in the semi-finals of the 4th edition of Hockey India Sub-Junior National Championship 2014, Hockey Gangpur will have to prove their mettle to retain the Championship title in 2015.
The 5th edition of the Hockey India Sub-Junior Men National Championship 2015 is scheduled to start from 6th May 2015. The 36 participating teams will be divided into two Divisions – A & B. Where Division A consists of 16 teams, further divided into 4 Pools with 4 teams in each pool, Division B will see 20 teams further divided into 4 Pools with 5 teams each.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Mohd Mushtaque Ahmad, Secretary General, Hockey India said, “The Sub-Junior National Championship is one of the most important tournaments for Hockey India. Coaches and Officials of various states federations, hockey teams and academies witness young talents here and groom them for bigger tournaments. The tournament gives ample opportunities to all the young players to improve their skills and competition level. A good competition always brings-up good talent. Hockey India is committed to raise the level of the competitions so that the maximum number of young players will receive a good opportunity to gain high-level competition experience.”
The matches will be played in a phased manner with Division B first completing its sets of matches and the same will be played from 6th May – 17th May 2015. Teams under Division A will play their matches from 17th May and will go on till 24th April 2105 in Delhi.
The inaugural match of the season will be played between Hockey Bhopal and Assam Hockey of Division B at 7:30am in Jammu, J & K under Division B. The Champions of the 4th edition Div. – B, Hockey Odisha, placed in Pool A, will be taking on Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy on 19th May, when Division – A kick starts on 17th May 2015.
