Jammu (Jammu & Kashmir), 12 May 2015: In the five hockey matches played today, the crowd at the stadium witnessed a number of gripping games between the teams who played with an intention to defeat their respective opponents.
The first match of the day witnessed a win for Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd who defeated Goans Hockey 10-0. The second match of the day was in favour of Bengal Hockey Association who won against Citizen Hockey XI 3-0. Followed by this, was a win for Chandigarh Olympic Association who enjoyed a wonderful triumph against Hockey Himachal with 15-1. Hockey Puducherry managed to bag a win 3-1 against Hockey Uttarakhand in the fourth clash. The day concluded with a victory for Hockey Bihar who thumped Hockey Jammu & Kashmir 10-2.
In the Pool A match Mumbai Hockey Association Ltd thumped down Goans Hockey 10-0 and this was possible because of Ameen Rogay, Satyam Yadvav and Captain Tikaram Thakulla’s hat-trick. Mumbai Hockey opened the account in the 6th minute when they were awarded a penalty corner, which was successfully converted by the captain Tikaram Thakulla. In the 30th minute, Ameen Rogay dribbled past the opposition’s defence and scored a smashing field goal taking the score to 2-0 by the end of first half. Mumbai Hockey not giving any chance to their opponents doubled their lead in the 37th and 48th minutes by a masterful brace by Satyam Yadav. Goans Hockey desperate to open their account, counter attacked but failed to get past the opposition’s line of defence. In the 49th minute, Captain Tikaram Thakulla scored the fifth goal for his team. In the 52nd and 57th minute, Ameen Rogay by effective conversion of a penalty corner and a field goal took the score to 7-0. In the 62nd minute, Shreyas Dhupe scored his first goal for the team. Mumbai Hockey demolished Goans Hockey by a field goal and conversion of penalty corner in 63rd and 65th minute by Satyam Yadav and Captain Tikaram Thakulla. By the final whistle, Mumbai Hockey won the match by 10-0
The second match of the day between Bengal Hockey Association and Citizen Hockey XI was a tough battle where Citizen Hockey XI went down struggling 3-0 to the Bengal Hockey Association. The winning team started the game on a high as they employed their finest tactics to create several scoring chances throughout the match. The first half was almost a dry run when Bengal Hockey Association finally managed to open their accounts through Akhilesh Santra who slapped the ball into the nets in the 34th minute. Bengal Hockey Association maintained their pressure on the opponents in the second half as well as Akhilesh Santra again struck the goal box with a brilliant field goal in the 41st minute taking the lead to 2-0. While, Citizen Hockey XI made desperate efforts to penetrate the opponent’s D, it was Bengal Hockey Association who stood successful in the 44th minute as Rajesh Mondal notched a field goal taking the lead to 3-0 and ending the game with a 3-0 win against Citizen Hockey XI.
In an exciting match between Chandigarh Olympic Association and Hockey Himachal, the former took command over the latter and thrashed them by 15-1. While both the teams were constantly looking for gaps to sneak in goals for their side, it was Chandigarh Olympic Association who drew their first blood in the 11th minute through Mahinder Singh who earned a sum of 7 goals for his team. Sanjay’s hat-trick in the 23rd, 50th and 62nd minute helped Chandigarh Olympic Association increase the tally. Chandigarh Olympic Association ramped up the intensity of the game when Arshdeep Singh struck a brace in the 31st and 51st minute followed by a very efficient penalty stroke conversion by Hashim in 44th minute. The increasing goal scoring momentum of Chandigarh Olympic Association made some tense moments for Hockey Himachal but they at length managed to score a solitary goal with the help of the Captain Sher Singh in the 54th minute, reducing the margin to 1-9. In the dying minutes of the game, Chandigarh Olympic Association added two goals to their tally through brilliant efforts of the Captain Sukhman Singh and Prabhjeet Singh in the 66th and 69th minute respectively which marked a win for Chandigarh Olympic Association over Hockey Himachal 15-1.
In the Pool B match, Hockey Puducherry defeated Hockey Uttarakhand by 3-1 with the help of S Surijith fantastic opening field goal and R Ranjith and R Yokesh’s brilliant conversion of penalty corners. Puducherry drew first blood in the 11th minute when S Surjith broke through the opponents defence and scored a smashing field goal. Hockey Puducherry dominated in the first half and didn’t allow Hockey Uttarakhand to score. In the second half, Puducherry won a penalty corner in 44th minute, which was effectively converted by R Ranjith. Two minutes later, in 46th minute Uttarakhand opened their account when Vishnu Kumar, successfully converted a penalty stroke taking the score to 1-2. Hockey Uttarakhand attacked relentlessly but all their attempts were continuously thwarted by Hockey Puducherry. In the 67th minute, R Yokesh’s superb conversion of penalty corner took the final score line to 3-1, resulting in Hockey Puducherry’s favour.
In the last match of the day, Hockey Bihar wins over Hockey Jammu & Kashmir 10-2. It was a highly contesting match where both the teams were looking at scoring the first goal. Anand Kumar Bara of Hockey Bihar was the star player of the match as he supported his team with a total of five goals in favour of his team. It was in the 18th minute that Hockey Bihar’s Sunil Mundu struck an opening goal through a field effort. The second goal for Hockey Madhya Pradesh came through Bhaskar Singh in 26th minute to take a 2-0 lead over Hockey Jammu & Kashmir. Just when the first half was in its last minutes, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir made full use of a penalty stroke when Prabjot Singh converted the first goal for his team in the 33rd minute. With the support Anand Kumar Bara, Hockey Bihar notched a 34th minute field goal to take the lead at 3-1 by the end of the first half. In the second half of the game, Hockey Bihar displayed some quick moves as its excellent player Anand Kumar Bara added 4 goals to the team’s tally. Keeping their hopes alive, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir bounced back into the game and scored the second goal coming from the stick of Captain Ramandeep Singh in the 54th minute to reduce the margin to 2-8. But Hockey Bihar proved their dominance by adding 2 more goals to their account to advance their lead to 10-2 and won the match against Hockey Jammu & Kashmir.
