26 players to be coached for selection in the State team
The first inter-district State-level women’s hockey tournament was conducted at James Engineering College in Navalacadu for three days from January 7. The Nammakkal team won the first prize defeating the Pudukottai team.
According to the chairman of James group of institutions and chairman of Kanyakumari women’s hockey association, James Prem Kumar said that as many as 17 teams participated in the tournament. Kanyakumari team bagged the fourth place.
Moreover, 26 women players have been selected from the 17 teams and they would be trained to take part in the selection for the State-level team in Chennai.
The medals were given by James Prem Kumar. The chairperson of district panchayat, Ajitha Mano Thankaraj, gave away the cash awards to the winners and also the medals.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police, Radhakrishnan, District Forest Officer Sundar Raju, District Sports Officer Siva Kumar, the president of the district women hockey association, Jesintha Dharma, participated in the prize distribution ceremony at Navalcadu on Sunday.
