CHANDIGARH: Army XI drew 1-1 with Punjab National Bank as both the teams qualified for the semifinals in the Jindal Steel Nehru hockey tournament at the Sector-42 Stadium here on Monday.

Jaswinder Singh converted a penalty corner to put the bank team ahead in the 39th minute, and the Army responded with a goal three minutes later through Eliazer Lakra.

Punjab National Bank had to win a tie-breaker subsequently against Army XI to top the group, as both the teams had five points, and the same goal difference etc.

In the semifinals, Army XI will face Indian Oil while Namdhari XI will tackle Punjab National Bank.

In another match in group ’B’, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) played a 2-2 draw against Air India.

Harpal Singh and B. Toppo scored for ONGC, and Air India equalised through Dhanraj Pillay and V. S. Vinay.
