The Australian men’s hockey team, the Commonwealth Games champion, has donated the gear used by its players in the Games to Salaam Bombay Hockey Academy, a grass-roots institution for underprivileged girls by NGO Salaam Bombay Foundation (SBF).
Hockey India (HI) has also supported this initiative and has joined Hockey Australia (HA) to make an appeal to all the participating teams to make similar contributions.
The Chief Executive Officer of HA, Mark Anderson, said, “Having recognised the need for supporting SBF’s initiative, HA has decided to voluntarily donate the hockey equipment used by our team participating in the Commonwealth Games 2010.
“We believe that this will go a long way in providing these children with a lifetime opportunity to be a part of a tremendous sporting experience.”
