Former India coach Cedric D’Souza feels that the Hero Hockey India League (HIL) will act as a ‘game changer’ for the sport. “The league will help the youngsters learn professionalism and improve their game as they will play alongside the top players of the world,” said D’Souza on Monday.

Former India captain Pargat Singh said the HIL would provide opportunities for the players to “exchange technical knowledge” with the overseas recruits.

Famed forward of yesteryear, Mohammad Shahid, said: “I wish I were fit to play in the HIL. It offers a great chance to play and learn.”

Cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is STAR Sports’ brand ambassador for the HIL remarked “hockey is our mother sport. I am sure the HIL will take the sport ahead.”
