Hockey camp at Pune from Sept. 7

NEW DELHI: The training camp for the core group of men’s hockey players for the 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held at Balewadi Complex, Pune, from September 7 to October 2.

The Indian team will go to Canada for training and will also play a seven-match Test series against the home side. The matches will be held on Oct. 9, 11 (in Victoria), and Oct. 14, 16, 18, 21, 24 (in Vancouver).

The women’s team will play in the Asia Cup to be held in Bangkok from October 30 to November 8. The camp for the core group of probables will commence at Bhopal from September 7, while the selection trials will be held between October 1 and 4.

Trials to pick the probables for the under-18 Asia Cup hockey tournament to be held in Yangoon (Myanmar) from November 14 to 22 will be conducted at Bhopal on Thursday and Friday.

Altogether 40 players will be selected from the trainees of various well-known academies of the country. — Sports Reporter
