India clinches series

New Delhi: Skipper Surinder Kaur led from the front, converting two penalty corners as India trounced Canada 4-1 in the third hockey Test to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-match series at Tamanawis Park, Surrey on Sunday.

India thus won the India-Canada Cup having beaten the host in the opening game while the second match was drawn.

India led 2-1 at half-time after Anna Kozniuk had given Canada the lead from a penalty corner in the 10th minute.

Surinder restored parity in the 17th minute and four minutes later Jasjeet Kaur Handa gave India the lead from another penalty corner conversion.

The Indian captain struck again in the 38th minute to make it 3-1 before striker Rani Rampal sealed Canada’s fate with a field goal in the 54th minute. — PTI
