SGGSC beats Municipal

NEW DELHI: Sri Guru Gobind Singh College (Chanidgarh) outclassed Municipal College (Rourkela) 8-2 in the quarterfinals of the SAIL 17th Nehru Champion Colleges’ hockey tournament in Kampoo, Gwalior, on Friday.

Rupinder Pal Singh (3), Harmanpreet Singh (2), Davinder Singh, Preetinder Singh and Jagjit Singh scored for the winner. Irshad Mirza and Ranju Minz scored a goal each to keep the Rourkela team in contention till the interval.

In another quarterfinal, Uprendra Pillai scored two goals including the match-winner to guide Jawaharlal Nehru PG College (Bhopal) to a 2-1 win over DAV College (Jalandhar). Amandeep Singh scored for the Jalandhar team.

In the other quarterfinals to be played on Saturday, Desh Bhagat College (Bardwal, Patiala) will meet Annamalai University (Annamalai Nagar) while Lyallpur Khasla College (Jalandhar) will take on Al-Ameen College, Bangalore.
