SH (Rourkela) is champion

VISAKHAPATNAM: State Sports Hostel (Rourkela) won the second Vizag Steel Cup invitation hockey tournament, beating Jindal Steel Plant (Chhattisgarh) 3-0 in the final at the Port stadium here on Friday.

Centre-forward A. Minz put the team ahead in the seventh minute with a fine solo. Sports Hostel could not add on to its tally as Jindal Steel Plant recovered quickly and gave its opponent a tough fight till the breather.

A penalty corner conversion three minutes after half-time by Stanley Victor Minz saw Sports Hostel gain a psychological advantage over its rival. The team forced another penalty corner in the 59th minute which Bikash Kuzur converted to complete the tally.

Victor Minz was adjudged ‘player of the tournament.’

Y. Manohar, Director (Personnel) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, was the chief guest and gave away the winner’s trophy. Former Olympian N. Mukesh Kumar presented the runner-up trophy. — Special Correspondent
