Chandigarh boy and CHA (Chandigarh Hockey Academy) goalkeeper Harjit Singh Goldy has been selected to join the men’s senior hockey camp in Pune from tomorrow. Harjit, who on being selected for the Chandigarh Hockey Academy in June 2002 had told journalists that one day he would be guarding the goal for India, will finally get the big chance to fulfill his dream as he joins the best in Indian hockey for the Champions Challenge preparatory camp.
Harjit’s talent was never in doubt as even at the junior level he had been given the best goalkeeper award in the S.N.Vohra Junior hockey tournament and was also the man of the match in the Dharam Singh Memorial Tournament in 2007.
He also has to his credit two Gold medals in All-India National School Games (U-17) and one Silver in the U-19 category in 2008. Seeing his consistent performances, he was selected for the Air India senior team in June 2007. In 2008 he again was part of the Gold-winning Air India team that played various tournaments in Lucknow, Pune and Madras. Harjit’s coach Jasbir Singh Bajwa said, “Harjit’s forte is his really good reflex time. He also is among the best shot stoppers in the country and I have really high hopes for him.” He further added that eh had complete faith that very soon, Harjit Sector 26, would be among the best goalkeepers in the world.
