Gold cup for next Obaidullah Hockey tourney winners: Chouhan
BHOPAL: Winners of the All India Obaidullah Khan Gold Cup Hockey tournament would be presented with a gold trophy from the next edition onwards.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made this announcement last night after inaugurating the week-long tournament at the Aishbagh Stadium.
Chouhan also announced to give Rs 18 lakh as promised to the Indian Hockey team for scoring 18 goals in the World Cup played in Delhi recently.
Chouhan had announced to give Rs one lakh per goal to the Indian hockey squad.
The Chief Minister said Madhya Pradesh government is committed for the development and promotion of the sport.
“Bhopal is known as the nursery of hockey and the sport would not be allowed to die in the state,” he said.
Noted commentator Jasdev Singh, on his arrival in Bhopal, praised Chouhan’s efforts and said he is optimistic that the country would regain its past glory in hockey.
