BANGALORE: Having had to do without a physical trainer for two big tournaments – the World Cup and the Commonwealth Games – the women’s hockey team will get one at last.
According to Hockey India sources, a trainer will join the squad in the Delhi camp and will part of the support staff for the event.
Fitness was a big concern during the Commonwealth Games and coach Sandeep Somesh admitted that the girls needed to work harder on that front. What is also of concern is that unlike the men’s team, which was given a regimen to follow during the 10-day break, the girls were left to their own devices as they did not have an expert to work out a schedule for them.
“Time is too short at the camp,” Sandeep admitted. “But we will be according top priority to fitness too.”
