I still follow the team’s progress: Brasa
MUMBAI: It’s been a year since they parted ways but former India hockey coach Jose Brasa on Monday said that he is still following the progress of the national team.
“I had a very good relationship with the players. I still follow the team’s progress,” Brasa said about the team which is being currently coached by Australian Michael Nobbs.
Brasa said the Indian team, which is currently playing in the Champions Challenge 1 tournament in South Africa, will find it easier in the forthcoming Pre-Olympic qualifiers, to be held in Delhi.
“It’s good to see they have beaten South Africa who are stronger than any of the teams they will be facing in the qualifiers,” said the Spaniard who had coached the team to a silver-medal finish at last year’s Commonwealth Games.
Brasa brushed aside Nobbs’ observation that his job included undoing the pre-eminent European style of play that the Spaniard had imparted during his stint.
“The team has come up the rankings under me as coach. Each coach has his own style. It’s up to Nobbs to impart his style of coaching,” he said.
