Karnataka face Delhi in last 8
BANGALORE: Kavitha and Reena netted five goals each as MP Academy crushed Dadra Nagar Haveli 14-0 in the 56th IHF Senior National Women’s Hockey Championship at the KSHA Stadium on Saturday.
MPA made a great start to the match and scored goals at regular intervals, giving Dadra Nagar Haveli no chance for a comeback.
In the day’s other matches, Uttar Pradesh routed Gujarat 17-0, while Madhya Pradesh outclassed Manipur 11-0. Priya Rai stole the show, scoring six goals for Uttar Pradesh. Dolly Yadav, Raina Yadav, Ranjita Barla and Lilima Minz netted two goals apiece in MP’s win over Manipur.
With the completion of the league stage, the quarterfinals start on Sunday. Due to the withdrawal of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan — the other two teams in Pool B — hosts Karnataka have qualified for the last-eight stage without playing a match. The hosts take on Delhi in the quarterfinal round on Sunday. The six other teams to advance are PEPSU, Bhopal, MP, Bombay, MP Academy and Haryana.
