Manipur rewards women hockey players
IMPHAL: Manipur chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Monday gave away Rs 2 lakh each to four Manipuri girls who were part of the Indian squad that won a bronze at the ERGO Junior Women World Cup Hockey Championship in Monchengladbach, Germany.
The four include team captain Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu, Thokchom Pinky Devi, Ningombam Sanarik Chanu and Mayengbam Lily Chanu.
Congratulating the players for their achievements, Ibobi urged them to work harder to achieve more laurels in future.
The awards were given at a function held the CM’s office chamber. Parliamentary secretary for youth affairs and sports M Prithviraj and the department’s senior officers attended the programme.
A resident of Thangmeiband here, team captain Sushila has so far played in several international championships, including New Zealand Test match, sub-junior Asia Cup, China and Youth Olympic festival, Australia.
