Rani Rampal gets corporate sponsorship from FieldTurf

BANGALORE: Promising Indian women’s hockey player Rani Rampal’s career received a major boost after she inked a sponsorship deal with a leading astroturf manufacturer FieldTurf Tarkett India.

As per the sponsorship deal, FieldTurf Tarkett India would support the striker with a monthly scholarship of Rs 4,000 per month for a period of one year. The grant will be renewed later based on her performance and need.

FieldTurf Tarkett India has chosen to adopt Rani in recognition of her achievements as well as her economic need.

The 15-year-old forward belongs to a poor family from Shahbad in Haryana, with her father making a living as a cart-puller and her brothers working as carpenters.

In her short career so far, Rani, the youngest player in the Indian team, has several accolades to her name, including the Young Player of the Tournament award at the Champion’s Challenge tournament held in Kazan, Russia last year.

She also played a vital role in Indian women’s silver medal winning feat in the Asia Cup last year.

Rani is the second GoSports Foundation athlete to receive the sponsorship from a company under the Corporate-Athlete Adoption programme.

“GoSports Foundation’s support programme for budding sportspersons is exemplary. We hope this modest contribution goes some distance in helping achieve Rani’s dreams and bringing laurels to India,” FieldTurf India managing director Anil Kumar said.

GoSports Foundation programme director Nidhi Gupta said, “Corporates in India need to understand the transformative role they can play in making sports a viable career option in India. We thank Field Turf Tarkett for understanding this and coming forward to support Rani Rampal.”
