Titbits: Here and there ‘Gabbar’ moment in Ipoh
Young forward Mandeep Singh, who sustained an ankle injury during Sunday’s opening match against South Korea is likely to miss out today’s match against New Zealand.
Mandeep had injured himself after he crashed with a Korean player in an attempt to trap a high ball. He was limping and had to be assisted for being taken out from the field.
Though, after the match coach Paul van Ass had indicated that the injury could be bad, but had not confirmed on whether the player will be playing the next match or not.
However, sources say, Mandeep is likely to miss out today’s match against New Zealand.
The young player, who has made a mark from the Hockey India League first season, has been on and off the field, ever since due with injuries.

It might sound farfetched but trying to draw a similarity, the Indian team had a ‘Gabbar moment’ from the Sholay movie in the match against South Korea on Sunday.
Dominating right from the beginning and playing a match up to the standard, India, who looked as if they could easily wrap up a win against a higher-ranked Koreans, messed up just once that cost them a win.
Everything was going right for India, until two players Jun Jung Lee and Seunghoon Lee made it difficult for India. On their own inside the rival D, Jun Jung Lee sent a cross towards Seunghoon Lee with little hope of getting success as there were almost four Indian defenders and a goalkeeper in the area.
But the duo not only managed to turn the match but also snatched away the win from India.
In fact coach Paul van Ass too agreed that the goal should not have happened.
“They were just two players and we had four defenders plus a goalkeeper. That goal should not have happened,” the coach said striking some similarity with the ‘Kitne aadmi the…Do sarkar” dialogue from the Sholay movie.
