Tribune: India beat Malaysia 9-1, enter semis

Skipper Rani Rampal slammed a hat-trick as India thrashed Malaysia 9-1 in their last league game to qualify for the semifinals of the women’s Junior Asia Cup here today.
In the eighth minute, Rani scored the first goal, getting on the end of Preeti Dubey’s cross. Seven minutes later, Jaspreet Kaur converted a penalty corner before Dubey chipped in with a goal.
Malaysia pulled one back just before halftime through Mohd Saiuti Norfaiezah. After the change of ends, the Indians continued to attack relentlessly, scoring four goals in a short span of six minutes. Poonam Balra deflected in a cross in the 51st minute and Jaspreet scored her second through another penalty corner conversion.
The ongoing tournament is a qualification event for next year’s FIH Junior World Cup. — PTI
