Organizers of the Lanco International Super Series Hockey 9s had a promo event for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation channel that will beam the matches live in the Perth Hockey stadium on Wednesday.

First a series shots from every conceivable angle was taken by two cameramen, the Australian forward Boycee was put in the trail with only her team goalie goalie to beat. Of course she must have been tired of shooting goals, as almost 90 percent of her shot went inside.

After a while Indian goalie and captain Bharat Chetri was also invited to join and help the ‘hapless’ his Aussie counterpart in the cage.

It was strange to see two goalkeepers get settled inside the cage comfortably, still a lot of space left.

The new cage, a meter wider now, looks very large eye to eye.

Boycee continued her act from the top of circle, or 25-yardline, as she was asked to do so by a producer – who got sufficient assistance from Shaun Anderson, the communication manager of Hockey Australia — still goals were coming.

After the shoot, the threesome had a health conversation before dispersing. It was 13.30 hrs here very hot

Two hours later, New Zealand and Pakistan team played out a practice match on the main pitch, while Australian women engaged just arrived Malaysia on the second pitch.

It was around 5 PM Indian team landed up without Bharat Chetri and played a match between them. In the first half one side had a goalie the other side none. The match went on, PR Sreejesh stopping many shots. Expectedly, the side without a goalie conceded six goals in the first half, while Yuvraj managed to put two goals against manned goal cage. It was 6-2 when I left for other works.

If the practice match proceedings are any indications, Sardar Singh and Gurbaj are going to be our stars. The way they pepped up the moves, diagonal passes of immpeccable speed and accuracy, often sets up other to just tap and hit at goals. SV Sunil, Manjit Kullu also seemed workhalics, while medio Ravi Pal Singh too was in the thick of actions.

This of course a challenge to our goalkeeping skills”, agreed PR Sreejesh, who played the practice match in the absence of Bharat Chetri.

What we need is, another person to cover the another angle. There should be somebody to guard us, as we intend to come out and play upfront” he adds.
