Agnel girls score hockey double

Clinch U-14, U-17 district titles at inter-school meet

As expected, under-14 and under-17 girls from Vashi-based Fr Agnels Multipurpose High School claimed titles in the inter-school district-level hockey tournament organised by District Sports Office (DSO) at Fatima High School, Ambernath.

In the under-17 final, Agnel girls defeated host school 4-2 via tiebreaker while in under-14 final, the Vashi lass got better of State Bank Officers Association (SBOA) School, Nerul 3-0 to ensure berth in the divisional-level tournament scheduled next week for which venue is yet to be decided.

“Both the matches have been really very good and the experience has helped our players to gain confidence for divisional-level meet,” school coach Surinder Singh Ahluwalia said.

In the under-14 final, Pranali Patil scored two goals while Amruta Rajarajan netted one goal to help their team emerge victorious. In the semifinal, Agnel girls blanked Fatima School 3-0 while SBOA School defeated Fr Agnels School, Ambernath 1-0 in the other semifinal. The school has been dominating city sports with their athletes making a mark for themselves at state as well as national level tournaments.
