Western Railway qualifies the league phase of the Punjab & Maharashtra Co.Op.Bank Sponsored 9th Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organized by MHA Ltd.
Western Railway over powered BEG by a thumping margin of 6-0 after being ahead by 2-0 score in the lemon break. As the final score suggest it was just the opposite during the tie played both sides displayed on a brisk pace from the word ‘go’. W.Rly started with a bang initial as their ace striker Hardeep Singh missed three easy chances back to back at the spot.
However BEG too were not far behind as they crafted ample raids on W.Rly citadel but they failed to get the desired results whatsoever Western Rly shot into lead in the 15th minutes of play time Jay Karan converted a indirect penalty corner ( 1-0 ) eleven minutes later Jaykaran added the 2nd goal by banging into the boards from the ‘D’ top a bisecting pass by Manish Shahi from the 25 yards ( 2-0 )
After resumption BEG tried hard for the upper hand but once again they were unsuccessful in getting the desire results Western Rly defence came handy. BEG enhance their attacks but their striker’s upfront failed to get on the target. BEG earned three penalty corner back to back which went abortive, however Western Rly found the 3rd goal their ace defender Amarjeet Singh converted a direct penalty corner in the 50th minutes to ease out the pressure on them ( 3-0 ).
Thereafter Western Rly fired 3 more goals by strikers Hardeep Singh while Jayesh Jadhav fired a brace in the 62nd & 65th minutes) to round up the tally. Western Railway grab the advantage pretty well while BEG failed to cash in any advantage coming in their way. BEG earned seven penalty corner compared to Western Rly four p.c.
BEG failed to convert any of them however Western Rly converted two p.c out of four p.c earned. Western qualifies for Pool ‘B’ for the league phase with ONGC, Namdhari and Indian Oil are the other contenders.
