Who the hell Harpreet Singh is?

Who the hell Harpreet Singh is?

Share

When the Indian captain Gurjinder Singh got a minor injury, the coaching team wanted him to be in the team. They thought his injury is minor, and he will be alright in a couple of day’s time. The coaches were not listened.

Then there was a talk Manpreet Singh, who was in Australia that time, will join the team, and with his experience at senior level will reinforce the colts here.

It did not occur.

Instead, Hockey India air-lifted him to Johor Bahru, he reached the team alone after the team was well settled here.

Who the hell the Harpreet is.

The way he came here speaks some big wig is behind him. Else, he would not have dared what he did in the camp.

He was not selected for the Johor Cup despite he being the lone gold medal winner of inconsequential Asian Champions Trophy.

If the team has not selected him, it looks to me, it is fair.

Once he was not selected in the team, he walked out, not to be part of standbye. Such an indisciplined player should have been barred from playing lifetime, but this gentleman got red carpet welcome, instead.

Most in the team management seemed to know his ‘extra power’. One things that is found here is, the entire management is scared of him.

This is because of his ‘extra power’.

Every member in the team confided that the team management never indicted him, nor said a word, even after single-handedly led the Indian disaster in the match against Malaysia.

He did everything that is not desirable in a sporting circle.

He was over-bearing in the field. He contested each and every decision of umpires.

His body language was simply threatening.

He should be ashamed of wasting four penalty corners, before scoring one in the another penalty corner. This was this match’s first goal, 61 minutes were yet to be played.

He thumped his chest, ran mocking at the crowd, which heckled him before for his nauseating questioning habits.

It was totally anti-thesis of all that goes with the sporting ethos.

As a senior player, he was supposed to lead others by example, but he did the opposite.

He even got a red, second one in the match after Talwinder Singh’s.

In the next day’s Tournament Director hearing, this was considered mild one and he was asked to play.

Ok, what the management should have done. Chief coach Mukesh could have given opportunity to another player, but not. He made him captain for the day!!.

Mukesh, have some guts.

He is a player he did not want. But Mukesh, like many Olympians we have in the past, played safe, compromised whatever is prestige, and though to pleasing his masters back home.

Player like Harpreet Singh are disgrace to hockey, the brand of hockey he happily indulges in is one that you won’t recommend to your children.

He doesn’t know English, don’t worry, what you then tell the umpire everytime? Does umpire understand what you say?

When Hockey India disregards its own coach and selection committee, and overrules them, sends payer of their choice, India got disgraced in Johor Bahru.

As far as Hockey India is concerned, it seems, participating in WSH is the only indiscipline act, rest all fine. Even if it meant a novice like Harpreet is walking out the camp, and happily coming back to the team, and carries his weight more than the coaches and manager!
