Born on January 8, 1992, Anna Flanagan was voted 2013 FIH Rising Star.
The tall defender made her debut in 2010 and collected 171 caps while scoring 34 goals for Australia.
She retired in 2016, relatively early from the sport, to concentrate on other pursuits, notably journalism.
Flanagan has two Commonwealth Games gold medals (2010, 2014), a World Cup silver (2014) and another silver in the 2012-13 Hockey World League among a host of other medals in her trophy showcase.
She played for Canberra Labor Club Strikers in the Australian league.
