Born in Khusropur (Jalandhar) on February 3, 1934, Hari Pal Kaushik was an all rounder and could play equally well in all three inside forward positions. He was an Army officer. He was well built and measured 5 feet 10 inches. He first came into limelight when he represented the all Punjab Schools XI in 1950. While in DAV College, Jalandhar, he represented Punjab University and later joined the Army. He first played for the services in 1954. In 1956, he was a member of the Services team which won the national title. The same year he traveled to Melbourne as a member of the Indian Olympic team. He was again selected to represent for the Olympics in 1960 (silver) and 1964 (Gold). A triple Olympian (1956-1964), he dazzled upfront, scoring goals and setting up goal scoring situation for others too. He was also vice-captain of 1964 Olympic team. He served in public sector company for many years post playing career, won services award for bravery. He was awarded Arjuna belatedly in 1999. The triple Olympian breathed his last on Jan 25, 2018
