Born in Aug.2, 1976, midfielder Ramandeep Singh of Punjab led India at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. A post-graduate from Punjab Agriculture University, Ludhiana, the gentle hockey player migrated to Canada where he lives nowadays. He made his senior international debut as a part of 20-member team that toured Europe in 1995. He did not look back since then. He ensconced at the technically difficult left-half position for about half a decade succeeding equally illustrious Shakeel Ahmed of Indian Airlines. Ramandeep Singh represented Punjab Police in the domestic circuit. He was honoured with the prestigious Arjuna award in 1999.
