A star of his own right, Surjit Singh shone on the Indian horizon in the 70s and 80s till a cruel car accident snatched his life when he was in his 30s. Surjit Singh led India at the home 1981-82 World Cup, 1982 Asia Cup & Champions Trophy in his illustrious career, played for Indian Airlines and later Punjab in the domestic circuit. His wife Chanchal Randhawa is also a famour hockey player. He was awarded Arjuna posthumously in 1998.
