Younger of two brothers of a bank employee, Tejbir Singh shot into fame with his penalty corner goal against visiting Germany at Hyderabad Test (2004, his debut match. The Sub-Inspector with Punjap Police, joined Surjit Academy in 1993 and played for Lyllapur Khalsa Senior School and DAV College in his formative days.

Toured Malaysia and New Zealand under coach Cedric D'Souza in 2001, but missed Dhaka PM Gold Cup and Qualifier in the same year. After the 2001 Jr. World Cup gold, figured in almost all Indian assignments in 2002 and 2003. Accused of drug charge, sidelined for next two years.

Made a comeback in 2006 under Rajinder Singh Jr. with a good show at the 2006 Chandigarh PHL. The hiatus seemed to have done a world of good for him, as he has been in his best form in the whole of 2006, setting up innumerable goal bearing moves. Represents Sher-e-Jalandhar in PHL.

Tejbir was banned from active hockey on indiscipline grounds after he misbehaved with umpire during the 2007-2008 Premier Hockey League.
