The talented midfielder from Karnataka, figuring in 2002 Akber el Yom Cup -- which India won. Vakkaliga Swamy Vinaya graduated to senior grade when Rajinder Singh Sr. took him for the Hamburg Masters next year. India won this tournament.

With two successive gold, played his first Champions Trophy in 2003, where was sparingly used. Failed to make it to Asia Cup and Afro-Asian Games in 2003 before bouncing back to Azlan Shah Cup in 2004. Was in out of national team in 2004 but played 2005 Jr. World Cup with aplomb. Played two seasons in Spain league. Saw action in the 2006 Pakistan series before dropped for next two assignments.

Made a comeback through 2006 Azlan Shah Cup, where India won bronze after so many years. Played in Spain for a club for a couple of seasons. Represents Indian Airlines in domestic circuit and Bangalore Lions in PHL. He made another of his comeback in March 2008 when invited for the Australian tour, which came after India failed to qualify for the Beijing Olympics.

Skilful Vinaya was perhaps the most notable comeback kids of Indian hockey. He hails from Karnataka.
