Twice FIH Player of the Year (2011 and 2012), once Rising Star (2008), two Olympic gold medals, as many World Cup gold!
Maartje Paumen of the Netherlands has won all there is in the game in a glittering career that spanned 235 international matches during which she scored an astounding 195 goals mainly through drag-flicks.
Born on September 19, 1985, in Geleen, Paumen hails from a hockey family with parents having played and coached and two older brothers and a sister playing the sport.
Her prodigious talent saw her in the u-16 national squad at just 13 years of age and it was only a matter of time that she made her senior international debut.
She burst onto the scene at the 2004 Champions Trophy in Rosario, Argentina, spurring her country on to victory.
Her role in the defence and central midfield along with her drag-flicking prowess were key factors in the Dutch winning the World Cup at Madrid 2006 and The Hague 2014 and at the Olympics at Beijing 2008 and London 2012.
She, however, had to settle for silver at the 2010 Rosario World Cup (losing to Argentina in the final) and the 2016 Rio Olympics (losing to Great Britain in a shootout).
Paumen played for Oranje Zwart and HC Den Bosch in the Netherlands and Royal Antwerp in Belgium and served as assistant coach for MOP after she retired from playing.
