Once considered third best field hockey competition, the Champions Trophy will return to sport six-team round robin format this year when it comes to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London, England.

The elite event will be held between 10-17 June

When conceived in the late 70s, Champions Trophy was a field of world’s best six teams played on round robin basis, before knock out ranking matches were added in the early 90s.

After 2010, the event was reduced to biannual with eight teams played on two pools with quarterfinal and other ranking matches.

The FIH has now reverted to the 70s. Only six teams will take part at London which was originally allotted to Argentina.

On the opening day, India will engage Germany.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH) is pleased to confirm that the men’s Hockey Champions Trophy will take place at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in England from 10-17 June 2016.

This year’s men’s showcase event will see Australia, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, India and Korea go head to head as they battle it out to be crowned the best of the best as Hockey Champions Trophy winners.
