Narender Dhruv Batra and Marc Coudron will go head-to-head on Saturday in the FIH elections for the post of president which will be the first to be held online.

Batra bids for re-election, having emerged as the first-ever Indian to hold the post in 2016. Coudron is a former Belgium international with 358 caps, a record for his country, and has played a key role in the Red Lions eminence, both as a player and later an administrator.

Coudron, 51, is Royal Belgian Hockey Association (KBHB) President. Batra, 64, heads the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The elections will be held on Saturday as part of the 47th FIH Statutory Congress originally scheduled to take place in Delhi, India, but were converted to an online event in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Elections will also be held for the positions of Executive Board (EB) Ordinary Member. There are two positions each to be filled for either gender. Among the female candidates, Danae Andrada (Uruguay) a candidate for re-election will vie with Hazel Kennedy (Zambia), also seeking another term and Inez Cooper (Ireland).

Erik Cornelissen (Netherlands) and Tayyab Ikram (Macau) are candidates for re-election and will be challenged by Ediga Bede Agbo (Nigeria) among the male candidates.

The mandates of the President and EB members who will be elected on 22 May 2021 will run until the 2024 FIH Congress.

The FIH Executive Board consists of:

The FIH President, eight Ordinary members (four female and four male members), one half being renewed every two years; an Athletes’ Representative; the Presidents of the Continental Federations;

The FIH CEO; Any (non-voting) member co-opted onto the Executive Board pursuant to Article 7.1(c) of the FIH Statutes.
