GNDU Amritsar will see hosts Sambalpur in finals

ROURKELA: (22nd December) Host Sambalpur University will meet Guru Nanak Dev
University (Amritsar) in the finals of All India Inter University hockey final to be
played here tommorow. In today’s semifinal matches played at the Biju Patnaik hockey stadium

Sambalpur registered an easy 3-1 victory over M.G.Kashi Vidyapeetha, Varanasi.

In seccond semifinal Guru Nanak Dev University defeate Kurukeshtra University
by a brace of goals.

In first SF Varanasi looked very lethargic against the host team. It seemed as if they
are not interested to win the match. They played in subdued manner, Sambalpur taking advantage of it took complete command over the match.

They shot into the lead in the very minute of the when defensive error on Varansi’s part gave opportunity to Amulya minz to open the account for his his team.

Imran Khan increased the tally in 13th minute and Azam beg made it 3-0 in 20th minute.
After this Sambalpur slowed down the pace, This gave an opportunity to Varanasi to score a consolatory gaol in 34th minute through Uday Pratap Singh.

Akram Khan and Raju Kant Saini were the umpires.

In second semifinal Guru Nanak Dev University defeated Kurukeshtra 2-0 to earn a right
to play against Samabalpur in finals. It was a hot pace match. But GNDU looked more cohesive in their attacks. This can be seen from the fact that they earned 8 penalty corners but they failed to utilise any of them. After the barren first half GNDU scored its first goal in 43rd minute through Gagan deep Singh. Ranjot Singh consolidated
the team’s position by scoring 2nd goal in 58th minute.

There were some hot moments in the and umpires had to keep a strict vigil over the match.

Dhyan Singh of Kurukeshtra was shown yellow card in the match
