Formed recently to promote hockey culture in the country, the Hockey Citizen Group is essentially a catalyst tool for dedicated volunteers to stimulate Indian hockey at all levels, especially at educational institutions. People from different walks of life – IT professionals, oil executives, bankers and writers – form its core. Headquartered in Delhi, it has volunteers and supporters spread over in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Puducherry and Amritsar.

Most volunteers are in varied jobs and reside in different places, the only link between them being hockey, the national game of India. Each has vowed to contribute in their own way towards promoting the sport.

Some of the volunteers of the Hockey Citizen Group who are at the forefront of conceptualizing, implementing and making resources available, are:

* K. Arumugam, Former Hydrologist
* Shashank Gupta, IT Professional
* V. Ravichandran, Oil Executive
* PK Mohan, NRI, IT Professional
Note: many more are likely to join in the course of time

The general objectives of the Hockey Citizen Group are as follows:

* To develop a society that is passionate about hockey.
* To create and sustain a hockey conscious society.
* To introduce hockey in schools and other educational institutions on a large scale, in both competitive and recreational domains.
* To make holistic efforts to propagate the sport and its history through both conventional and non-conventional means.
* To create novel events involving mass participation to make hockey popular.
* To work with the Government, IHF, IWHF and other agencies, in carrying out activities to further the cause of hockey.
* To make hockey a popular recreational activity and a social sport, that is enjoyable for Indians of all age-groups.
* To create awareness on contemporary issues, and execute suitable citizen-based opinion mobilization initiatives.
* To involve NRIs in these efforts, to avail of and channelise their interest in hockey.
