Is India going to pull out of Birmingham CWG?

Share

According to a message shared by the Indian Olympic Association President Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, Hockey India is not interested in fielding its men and women’s teams for the next year’s Commonwealth Games.

Hockey India feels the gap between the Birmingham number and the Asian Games is less, and that the teams cannot peak for the Asian Games which comes after the former. As the winner qualifies for the Paris Olympics 2024 directly, India’s priority is the Asian Games, grab the chance and book direct ticket.

Birmingham CWG is scheduled to be held from 28th July to 8th Aug. Whereas Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 is from 10th to 25th September.

The gap between the two events is about a month. Its obvious a team cannot peak twice in the short period the Indian hockey is pressed into at the moment.

Dr Batra met Sandeep Pradhan, Director General of the Sports Authority of India. The duo discussed about the future plans of both men’s and women’s hockey team. Hockey India, it seems, has not included CWG in their future program / plan.

However, instead of mulling total pull out Hockey India should think of playing its second team in Birmingham.

Whatever, it is early to say anything finitely and the last word will be said much later
