Jr Women’s (Div B): Chandigarh, Assam registers win

Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, 1 May 2015: The 5th edition of the Hockey India Junior Women National Hockey Championship 2015 (Div B) being played in Rajnandgoan, Chhattisgarh today saw neck-to-neck fierce battles of the respective pool phases.

The first match of the day started with a win for Assam Hockey who beat Goans Hockey 4-1. This was followed by another exciting clash where Chandigarh Olympic Association blanked Bengal Hockey Association with an 11-0 margin.

In a close contested match between Goans Hockey and Assam Hockey, it was the superior Assam Hockey that edged past the weaker Goans Hockey 4-1. The match was full of unexpected actions as it was Goans hockey that drew the first blood in the 13th minute through a penalty corner conversion from Geeta Rathod. This early jolt did not deter Assam Hockey as Gitanjali Kissan stood and smashed an equalizer for her team in the very next 14th minute and leveled the scores at 1-1. With this, in the entire first half both the teams kept each other at a bay and did not allow each other to add further goals to their tally. After a gruesome battle, it was Assam Hockey who successfully sneaked into opponent’s defence line through Chayashree Gohain scored a brace in the 49th and 54th minute taking the scores to 3-1. While Gitanjali Kissan managed to score another field goal for her team in the 57th minute, Goans Hockey being unable to add further goals lost the match to Assam Hockey with a 4-1 on score board.

In the single side dominated match, Chandigarh Olympic Association easily beat Bengal Hockey Association 11-0. The entire match went dry run for Bengal Hockey Association as they failed to pierce the sturdy defence of the opponents. Chandigarh Olympic Association started raining goals through Manju who struck back-to-back three goals in the initial 6th, 16th and 17thminute of the game taking the lead to 3-0. With the use of a penalty corner opportunity, the fourth goal was scored by Kamlesh in the 19th minute before going to the break. The second half of the game saw the same momentum delivered by the Chandigarh Olympic Association who added two goals to its tally to make a total of 7 goals. Shweta contributed three beautiful goals for Chandigarh Olympic Association in the 54th, 60th and 62nd minute which was supported by another field goal coming from the stick of Jyoti Rani in the 67th minute. This took the scoring to a sum of 11 goals and the match concluded in favour of Chandigarh Olympic Association who defeated Bengal Hockey Association 11-0.
